Snowfall built up over thousands of years has produced vast ice sheets that blanket Greenland and Antarctica. Buried deep within the ice are ancient traces of air, chemicals, and dust from Earth's atmosphere. Cores extracted from these ice sheets provide vital clues to understanding climate change past, present, and future.
