This afternoon we began to leave the Drake Passage and move into the straits around the Antarctic Peninsula. It is amazing how quickly the seas calm once a ship moves beyond Drake Shake. The water is so still it looks like there is not even a current. It is crystal clear.
I'm hoping for Lake Drake on the return trip. I am glad I experienced the Drake in all its fury, but I also want to experience it when it is calm and still.
